Viking Octantis cast a green glow across the Duluth Ship Canal before dawn as the massive expedition ship arrived with passengers on July 27.
Crowds lined both sides of the Duluth Canal as the brand-new BBC Kolding arrived with machinery, exchanged a booming bridge salute, and passed beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge.
The Wilfred Sykes’ rare Duluth arrival at sunrise carried more than beauty. The historic steamship brought back the memory of a 1953 Lake Superior rescue, reminding ship watchers why some Great Lakes legends still feel alive when they come through the canal.
