Kaydee turned Sunday morning at the Big Bear nest into a moment eagle fans needed. After discovering the camera and delivering some unforgettable head tilts, she took off just seconds behind Shadow.
After days of nest visits, close roosts, preening and morning duets, Shadow and Kaydee have reached a new point. A raptor biologist who helped band Kaydee now says the Big Bear eagles appear to be forming a pair bond.
Shadow and banded eagle KD1 spent Sunday morning moving through Big Bear before sharing the Twin Pines and exchanging vocals. Then the rain started, while questions swirled about what KD1’s continued presence really means.
Shadow kept the fish coming at Big Bear until Sandy and Luna had full crops, heavy eyelids and no choice but to sleep it off.
Shadow guards an empty Big Bear nest while a sub-adult eagle settles into Jackie’s favorite perch and Sandy and Luna remain away from the nest overnight.
Luna reached the high perch at the Big Bear eagle nest, then made a bold dismount back to the nest. Now both eaglets are deep in the fledge window.

On March 7, 2026, A powerful windstorm brought a tense moment to the Big Bear bald eagle nest, where Jackie and Shadow are currently incubating their eggs. The gusts were so strong that both eagles were blown off the eggs three different times while trying to protect and incubate them. Even as the tall pine tree swayed back and forth, Jackie and Shadow kept returning to the center of the nest bowl, doing everything they could to keep the eggs warm and safe.
